Figures published this month by the Office for National Statistics revealed the number of workers on zer-hours contracts had nearly doubled to reach 200,000. They are obviously popular with employers, but last month Labour MP Andy Burnham said his party should introduce a ban on these types of contracts if it is re-elected.
